The compassion center was started in 1992 in response to the victims of the Mozambique floods. Since then, more than 400 shipments have been delivered throughout the United States and internationally to twenty-two world areas. Donations come to the center from many churches and non-profits, and from consignment shops.
Special methods and procedures have been developed over the years to meet shipping, cultural and customs requirements. For example, clothing is separated by warm and cold climates – and cultural restrictions. Sharon Kessler, Administrator of the Center says, “The genius of our warehouse is having items pre-separated to be able to quickly respond to specific needs.”
We appreciate the volunteers from Stillmeadow over the years, including Scott Forsythe, Allen Wagaman, Harry Guyer, Darlene Judd, Jody Ritchey, Betty Collier, Eloise Dubs, Jackie Heindel, JoAnn Hull, Mary Ann Wyly, and Ruth Vaughn - and many others!
Check out this one minute video that describes a day spent with the Stillmeadow team two years ago at the Fawn Grove Compassion Center.
The center responds when a District Superintendent, Pastor or Missionary
makes a request. When there is a disaster, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries
coordinates the distribution of crisis care kits. Also, items are sent to families
through local churches.
STILLMEADOW CONNECTION
Every month since the start of the center some
very special Stillmeadow people have volunteered on the first Wednesday of each
month. In fact, three volunteers have
been visiting for more than 24 years!
Pastor
Jonathan Batchelder, Senior Pastor of the Fawn Grove Church of the Nazarene
says, "The volunteers from Stillmeadow Nazarene are some
of the most faithful servants of
Christ. We so appreciate their help & dedication to this ministry, and we
also cherish their friendship."
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Stillmeadow folks can donate
items by placing them in the Stillmeadow Food Pantry. Right now smaller size summer weight clothing is needed,
and the center always needs blankets and bedding. There is always a need for volunteers
to help separate items - the first Wednesday of each month. The team leaves the
church at 8am and returns at 2pm. If you can’t donate items or serve, please
consider giving a monetary donation to this important ministry. The following
videos tell the Fawn Grove story in more detail. They are worth watching……
