COMMUNITY MEAL |
"Our City Campus will participate in the East End Community Thanksgiving meal on November 20, 2016 where they will provide meals for more than 2000 people!" Pastor Kent
The old York County Prison looked intimidating on this dark and rainy night. But just across the street, there was a warm and welcoming place where people gathered to connect with the God of Hope.
9/30/2016 - For our Friday Feature Story we visited the Stillmeadow City Campus - a place where they practice what Jesus taught; a balance between meeting people's physical and spiritual needs. (Matt. 4:23). Our visit was on a Wednesday night, where we observed the following ministries.....
During our visit there was a meal provided first and then a large group meeting in the worship center (led by Sam and Anna Reynolds). After the meeting, separate breakout sessions were available for men and women to connect. (The group included some women who are brought weekly from the York County Prison). View our previous post about prison ministries HERE.
We were struck by the honesty in this group and came away convinced that the Celebrate Recovery teachings really do apply to everyone. We overheard one guy saying, "I Can't, God Can, Let Him." Not bad theology for all of us.
Life is shared, relationships are developed and connections are strengthened in the hospitality cafe. The café is a vital ministry of the York City Campus for spiritual and physical refreshment. (the cafe is normally full of people but when this picture was taken they were in their respective groups). You can view a previous post about the "Panera Connection" HERE.

On this Wednesday night the focus was prayer, specifically looking at a request described and granted in 1 Chronicles 4:10. "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain."
The upbeat conversation taking place in the room and the energy between the kids made us think of the song...
“Making your may in the world today takes everything you’ve got,
Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name.”
Because last Wednesday was "Back to School Night", each kid received a special gift bag.
Every Wednesday night Pastor Kent leads an interesting bible study for adults. On this Wednesday night the group studied the book of Esther, and Pastor Kent talked about God's sovereignty and loving care for his people.
