MOUNT VERNON NAZARENE UNIVERSITY
MY MOTIVATION
For the last couple of years I've been trying to figure out where to use my talents for God's glory. I recall that back in College, I was in charge of all the intramural sports at MVNU during my senior year. During that time, while I was coordinating the activities and handling the recreational side, I got to see the students in competition, while at the same time maintaining what God called them to be - Servants. I now feel that I can use this knowledge to help Stillmeadow recreation expand into new fronts, with new ideas, and take our teams to another level of servanthood and outreach.

Recreation is an important Stillmeadow ministry for three primary reasons:

PERSONAL FITNESS - The Apostle Paul asked the church in Corinth: "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? (1 Cor. 6:19) God has made us stewards over our physical bodies. Proper exercise is an important aspect of personal fitness.

FELLOWSHIP - Christian fellowship is an important aspect of our spiritual development. In fact, The Apostle John wrote: "If we walk in the light, as God is the in the light: We have fellowship with one another. (1 John 1:7). Recreation can be a great way for believers to develop meaningful relationships with other believers.

OUTREACH - The Apostle Paul writes: "by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessing. (1 Cor. 9:20-23). Recreation can be a tremendous means of outreach to a friend.

THE UNDERDOG NAMED DAVID
Earlier this month, Stillmeadow began a new two month sermon series called "Underdogs". Since then, at the end of each Friday Feature News we provide a brief recap of the sermon. Last Sunday, Pastor Bud looked at the life of the Underdog named David. Our six takeaways were as follows.
  1. David made mistakes. Actually, he committed some serious sins. But at the end of his life David returned to the person who attracted God in the first place.
  2. We won't have room for God if we are filled with ourselves.
  3. Are you willing to take what God has put into your hands and march toward the giant in your life?
  4. The world has yet to see what can happen when Underdogs get serious about God's unique plan for them.
  5. We don’t need to be top dogs to do stuff for God. When we try to be the top dog it often doesn’t turn out very well.
  6. He has given you what you need to do stuff for Him. Stop focusing on what you don’t have. Stop wishing you were someone else. Stop putting on someone else’s armor. Be who God has made you to be.
